Our Philosophy
At The Village Nursery School, our core belief is that all children deserve be cared for with compassion, kindness, encouragement, and warmth. While we recognize the importance of cognitive development and learning, we believe that in these early years, our primary focus as caregivers should be on the emotional wellbeing of each child. When children feel comfortable, supported, and appreciated, their ability to grow and prosper in all other areas of development is limitless.

We are a mixed-age classroom, which allows us to meet each unique child at whatever stage they are at developmentally, regardless of age. The pace of learning is individualized to each child. This allows for each child to move at whatever pace they are at. The educator's job is to meet them there, and help them reach their full potential.

In the early years, one of the ways that children learn is through play. We believe that kids should just be kids, which to us means playing, exploring, socializing and using their imagination. This is why we have plenty of time set each day for free play, where the little ones can do just that.

We give the little ones many opportunities to explore creatively. We love to support the children in our care with open-ended activities, such as arts and crafts, dance, music, and anything else that encourages their imaginations to run free.
Outdoor play is very important to us. Being in the fresh air, teaching the children about the earth and nature, growing plants together, and simply playing. We always make sure to have set time (when weather appropriate) to either play outside in our playground or go on a neighbourhood stroll.

Our Space
The environment in which a child learns is so important. We strive to provide a calming, natural environment for children to feel safe and comfortable. We have intentionally filled the classroom with natural materials such as woods, wickers, and cottons, rather than plastic. We use real, natural materials that are safe for exploration and will withstand lots of play.
We have chosen to decorate with calming colours and earth tones rather than bright colours. As we know, a child's mind is already very busy and using too many colours can distract, overwhelm and overstimulate a child in their learning environment.

The classroom has a variety of materials and activities which we rotate through to support each child'd social, emotional, cognitive, physical, and language development. Books, puzzles, blocks, sensory materials, art supplies and musical instruments are just some of the things that we have in the classroom to help the children explore, learn and grow.
